The upcoming election in Harlem for Male District Leader, is going to draw a lot of attention. It will pit an up-and-coming candidate, Dr. Maurice Franklin, against a field which will include Charlie Rangel. Yes, the Charlie Rangel. So, when the spotlight starts to shine, who will emerge as the winner or, will it be some other contender. Dr. Franklin who is also making his official announcement on The Walt Weekly!
About Dr. Franklin
Dr. Franklin lectures and consults on organizational sustainability, strategic planning, and corporate development strategies. Dr. Franklin has previously served as an advisor to former Mayors Mike Rawlings, Bill Campbell, and Marion Berry, Washington D.C. Dr. Franklin has chaired public sector appointed committees on health, poverty, and community development. Dr. Franklin’s published academic works are rooted in Participatory Action Research (PAR), nonprofit leadership and management, and institutional sustainability resilience and long-term sustainability strategies. Dr. Franklin’s practitioner work has included, Bristol Myers-Squibb a fortune 500 pharmaceutical company, the American Red Cross, and YMCA, both international public sector institutions, the federal government, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. Dr. Franklin currently serves on Harlem Hospital and the Prince Hall Medical Foundation Board of Directors.
Maurice worked as an executive staff advisor to Civil Rights Icon and Presidential Medal of Honor recipient, Dr. Joseph E. Lowery. Dr. Franklin assisted Dr. Stephen Thomas, Ph.D. and Sandra Quinn, M.Ed., on their landmark and seminal Tuskegee Syphilis study, examining the Knowledge, Attitudes, Beliefs, Behaviors (KABB) of African American faith members. Dr. Franklin has been interviewed and featured on PBS, New York Times, and countless local and international magazines and other publications.
Dr. Franklin is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated and holds the honor of Grand Inspector General in Scottish Rite Masonry. Dr. Franklin has served as a faculty-student advisor at Clark Atlanta University, Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University, Virginia Wesleyan University, and Morehouse College.
Dr. Franklin attributes his activism and social justice commitment to the influences of mom, James Baldwin, Marcus Garvey, and his 4th Great Grandfather Buck Colbert Franklin, and cousin Dr. John Hope Franklin. Dr. Franklin resides in New York City and is a native of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.

Vanessa L. Gibson
Council Member Vanessa L. Gibson represents the Bronx’s 16th Council District. As the West Bronx’s voice at City Hall, she passionately advocates for affordable housing, low income families, seniors, LGBTQ rights, gender equity, employment access, and meaningful opportunities for our youth.
2014-2017 session, ms. Gibson served was as Chair of the Council’s Committee on Public Safety, and has the distinction of being both the first woman and first person of color to hold this role. As Chair, she had oversight of the operations and budget of NYPD, the Civilian Complaint Review Board, the District Attorneys and the Special Narcotics prosecutor, and Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice.
Gibson has been a leader in school safety reform, championed criminal justice reform legislation, and is a vocal proponent of anti-gun violence programs. Under her leadership, the Council was able to secure funds necessary to expand the NYPD’s headcount almost 1300 officers in FY16, and expand the DAs baselined budgetary allocation by over $21 million in FY17, with over half of the money going to the historically underfunded boroughs of the Bronx and Staten Island.
Currently, Gibson is a Deputy Leader, Co-Chair of the New York City Council Women`s Caucus and the second Bronxite to Chair the Committee on Oversight and Investigation
Keith Suede DosReis, Jr.
In 1999 The Good Lord Blessed Suede with the opportunity to be a co-founder & host of “StepCorrect”, the first ever national step show tournament. Suede toured the nation vibing with spectators on the East coast, west coast, Midwest, dirty south– and now international fans after his tour in the Caribbean. Suede’s success has lead him to grace the stage of major homecomings, TV and video show appearances, a feature on CBS, MTV’s True Life and LA Songs of Success, voice commercial promo's for P. Diddy, Baby, Lil Wayne, Snoop dog, Kanye West and Akon to name a few. Suede also co-founded and hosted the first ever nationally syndicated college radio show “Live From Da Yard”, reaching close to 1 million listeners in just one year. Guest host and produced events at Summer Jam for New York's Hot 97’s radio station, the college poster-boy for Dame Dash’s Team Roc clothing line, and a college hit song called “ Get Ya' Stroll On" which was the first Black Greek Anthem”.

Maybe we are being paranoid, maybe this is just us seeing things, or maybe, we are just reading more into it than we should be. But there appears to be a lot more Black women than black men, on broadcast television and other entertainment platforms over the last year or so.
This would be good, right? But now I am seeing fewer black men. Now what can we attribute this to? Should statistics (not available now) prove us right, or, are we peddling a new conspiracy? Just saying
